This second round Jubilee Cup clash saw Gadlys Lions entertain AFC Abercynon at the Ynys. And having done the double over their Aberdare opponents in the league, Cynon started as clear favourites. However, the home side proved a tough nut to crack in the icy conditions. Indeed, the Lions acquitted themselves well during the opening exchanges & more than matched their table-topping opposition. But on 20 minutes the visitors were able take the lead when Gary Willis over-lapped down the left & produced an incisive finish after being set up by James Davies. Having gone in front AFC quickly added a second goal courtesy of another well-worked moved with Davies again providing the killer ball. This time though, it was skipper Tom Evans who drove the ball into the Lions' net. On the half hour Davies once more showed his quality with yet another defence splitting pass for Alex Rees to make it 0 - 3. And just before the break Davies himself capped a great half when he beat the off-side trap to get on the score sheet himself. Following the turn around the home side came out looking to reduce the arrears & this they duly achieved on 55 minutes after a cross-shot looped over Steve Hall in the AFC goal. But Alex Rees soon restored his sides 4 goal advantage when he drilled the ball home for his tenth goal of the season. Further strikes from Tom Evans, Gary Willis & Man of the Match James Davies proved more than enough to book AFC's passage into round three.
